Today we feature the work of Noctis Mag editor Leoni-Blue. Creative, captivating and expressive, Leoni’s work can be seen across a range of fashion and lifestyle magazines.
I started taking picture at 18, focusing on my female friends trying to capture the essence of the fashion magazines that inspired me. But I didn’t really get into photography until I started Uni. I studied at AIB. Which was a great arts university, great people and the course was fantastic.
Our head of Year Conrad Tracey was a great individual who taught me a lot. We also had a huge array of visiting lectures and practical workshops where I learn my craft and passion for creating work.
I’m really inspired by a lot of female photographers, Alex Prager & Ellen Von Unwerth being the two references points that I generally turn to. I’m also lucky enough to work with Alice Hawkins, a great person and fantastic artist who’s work inspires me. Another influence of mine is Rookie Magazine & Tavi Gevinson for her strong options and her ability to merge fashion and politic together.
When shooting myself I like soft, more innocent poses, and look for the beauty in the model. I do enjoy indulging in both movement and colour so I try to shoot with these concepts in mind
Capture & Workflow
I shoot with a Canon 5D mark II, I prefer shooting with daylight for the sheer joy of not being able to control the weather and having to go with the flow. it brings something more to the work than something that is predetermined. Sometimes I can be looking through the edit and find a certain ray of light which completely changes the image.
I always say that being spontaneous and open minded is a great way to shoot. For my post production I use Aperture to process my files and then Photoshop 6 to add the final touches.
