My Inspiration
It’s time for – ‘My Inspiration’. Every week we present to you one of our clients, and what inspired them to get into photography.
This week we want to introduce to you Matt Davis – Matt was a commercial banker. He discovered photography whilst traveling through Asia and the Middle East – so he ditched banking.
Matt told me “happiness followed!” and I had to smile!
Describe yourself in three words!
Perfectionist. Pragmatic. Easily bored.
When did you start taking pictures?
Bought my first camera in 2004 whilst traveling through China and Indonesia.
What inspired you to do so?
Travel and landscape photography. Paolo Pellegrin’s Magnum work blew me away and Galen Rowell’s landscapes inspired me to buy my first set of grad filters. Peter Lindbergh is my favourite photographer these days.
What image did you choose to show us today?
I shot this on a beach in Devon. It’s my favourite landscape at the moment because it’s so different to my other work and illustrates how I’m moving on as a photographer.
A few years ago I’d have waited until sunset for a dramatic sky and looked for a classic composition. Now I prefer negative space, high key lighting and something a little unusual- the polar opposite of my previous ideas of a “correct” image.
Anything else to add?
Anyone who has some budget to commission me for some Caribbean landscapes?
