People I’ve Never Met – printed on German Etching
Nick Sheehy talks to us today about himself and the motivation behind his work:
“My motivation is to produce an image or a scene that I have never seen before. I like creating events and characters that seem otherworldly and weird, yet have a certain familiarity and friendliness to them.
“This illustration above had to fit the title “People I’ve Never Met” for a competition. I liked the idea of a traveling one man/bird band with the necessary accessories he’d need to travel.
Before the Fire – printed on German Etching
“I wanted to mix in some medieval type imagery and tone. And I also wanted a reason to draw some elephants. I like to give a sense of uncomfortable interaction between the characters.
Before the Fire – printed on Canson Rag
“This was a submission for a book with an ‘map’ theme. So I was thinking about the perils of travel and navigation in uncharted areas.
The Offering – printed on German Etching
“I’m not sure exactly what’s going on. The birds are either travelling or preparing for some ritual.
Nick’s Future Plans
“At present I have a few smaller projects on the go here and there. I’m currently exploring etching techniques to see if that’s a medium I’d like to pursue, I’m trying to get a pitch together for a comic book and I’ve been collating work for some upcoming publications and exhibitions.”
