Fantastic Fashion Photography

Niko Mitrunen

Grotto

Today we talked to Niko Mitrunen about him and his fantastic work. Here you can read what he answered:

“I love to create things together with creative people, I wouldn’t want to do anything else. I enjoy making beautiful images and am very interested in what appeals to different people visually. Visual taste is a very personal and subjective thing and to make something that appeals to most peoples idea of beauty is not easy.

The image above “was shot as the last of the day in a isolated rocky beach about an hours drive out of Cape Town, as part of a fashion series coming out next month.

Iza

“This is a shot of one of the loveliest models I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, a brazilian girl called Iza Rocche. It was shot was shot around 7am as the sun was low and still rising over Cape Town, on my apartment buildings roof on the 13th floor. Wind was blazing and the whole story was shot by 10am.

Mod

“Above image is from a series shot to show Paul Smiths AW2011 London collection.

Metallic

“This series was shot to show the best of St. Martins fashion design graduates work. This was my favourite image of the series, I love the 70’s space age vibe it has.

Future Plans

“I’ve just spent the last winter shooting in South Africa, and would like to go back there next year to build on the contacts I’ve made and turn them into long term working relationships. I’ve also been looking into working more in my home town Helsinki and in the near future I’d like to establish a regular client base that exists between London, Cape Town and Helsinki.”

  1. Wow..Fabulous concept and theme based photography.  The one with the umbrella reminds me of the early 1960's pictures, it would have been a fantastic click if done in B&W..
    :)

  2. Excellent photography. Thanks for adding these photographs, it really a visual treat. The theme of the St. Martins fashion work reminds of pictures at old times and the model is quite passionate. Great Work.

I like the motion in your photos. On the one hand, as stated above, you're trying to sell clothes, but on the other hand, the fashion student is essentially your client. The clothes are their prerogative, photographing them in an interesting way is yours. I think you did a good job.
