Reality Football

Alan Powdrill's journey through the grassroots of the beautiful game.

With World Cup madness ready to reach fever pitch, leading East London photographic gallery theprintspace will unveil an alternative look on football, from photographer Alan Powdrill.

Photographed over three seasons in the Sunday Leagues across seven UK cities, this humanistic portrait focuses on the unsung heroes and dreamers who week-in week-out live out Match of the Day fantasies for nothing but love.

Straightforward and ordinary men of every hue, shape, size and skill are captured in a show representing teams as diverse as the Hackney Martians from London and Unreal Madrid from Manchester.

Reality Football is an artistic antidote to the World Cup. In today’s economic climate it reminds us that the beautiful game doesn’t have to be filled with players who are mega rich and tabloid hungry.

theprintspace gallery, located in the heart of East London and close to the famous Sunday League pitches of Hackney Marshes, is the perfect space to present this grass roots perspective of the beautiful game.

Reality Football opens with a private view (with free drinks!) to which you’re all invited at theprintspace gallery from 7pm on June 17th and continues 9am-7pm Monday-Friday until July 13th, the perfect way to kick-off the World Cup!
