Revealing Only A Glimpse
Callum’s Story – Victoria Brook.
“My work is influenced by my passion for children’s literature and illustrators such as Tove Jansson, Shirley Hughes and Edward Gorey. Using this illustrative inspiration, each of my paintings aims to reveal only the glimpse of a story, letting the viewer imagine their own wider narrative. The subjects of my watercolours, although often depicted in isolated settings, are always illuminated or protected which I hope conveys a similar experience to reading a book. I like the characters in my work to be safe whilst they escape into the extraordinary.

Man with Captured Seagulls – Victoria Brook.
“The ideas for all of my paintings are inspired by the memory I have for wanting to be inside the stories I was being read when I was a child. I’m very interested in creating work that will spark the imagination of the viewer, hopefully making them feel they want to explore the narrative of the image.

The Midnight Procession – Victoria Brook.
“I’m a relatively new artist having graduated from The University of Reading with a First Class Degree in 2008. I’m in the process of gaining representation and my watercolour paintings are being stocked in galleries and shops in the East Sussex area. An exciting on-going project is my Children’s Picture book which I have written and illustrated called ‘The Green Umbrella’ and i’m looking for a publisher at present.”

Fire Dance – Victoria Brook.
Victoria’s full portfolio can be seen here on her website and she also has a Facebook page which she uses as a running diary of all of her projects.
