Many clients use test strips to check colour, density, sharpness and the impact from any enlargements made to the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>How to prepare a test strip in Adobe Photoshop for print.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6>At theprintspace, our test strip dimensions are 30 by 4 inches, and you can put whatever you like on the image area.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>This tutorial will show you how to prepare a test strip for printing using two example files:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>One sized <strong>30 by 40 inches<\/strong><\/li><li>One sized <strong>16 by 12 inches<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Step 1: Open your image<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Open your image in <strong>Photoshop<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select the <strong>Rectangular Marquee Tool<\/strong> from the palette.<\/li><li>Enter the width as <strong>30 inches<\/strong> and the height as <strong>4 inches<\/strong>. Make sure your units are set to <strong>inches<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3>Step 2: Create the crop area<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Click anywhere in your image. A <strong>30 \u00d7 4-inch crop box<\/strong> will appear.<\/li><li>Move the crop to include the most important image elements.<\/li><li>Go to <strong>Image &gt; Crop<\/strong> to crop to the test strip size.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tip: It\u2019s best to choose a strip with highlights, shadows, and midtones to check the tonal range of your prints. Alternatively, focus on an area with finely balanced tones or detail (e.g., skin tones, shadows).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Step 3: Save your file<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Save your cropped strip as a <strong>flattened TIFF<\/strong> or <strong>high-quality JPG<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Your test strip is now ready to upload.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3>Step 4: If your image is smaller than 30 inches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the longest dimension of your image is <strong>less than 30 inches<\/strong>, you\u2019ll need to <strong>add a border<\/strong> so the file is recognised as a test strip by our ordering software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Use the <strong>Rectangular Marquee Tool<\/strong> again to select your crop.<\/li><li>Go to <strong>Image &gt; Crop<\/strong> as before.<\/li><li>Then go to <strong>Image &gt; Canvas Size<\/strong>. A new window will appear.<\/li><li>Add an additional border to make the longest side up to <strong>30 inches<\/strong>.<ul><li>Uncheck the <strong>Relative<\/strong> box.<\/li><li>Enter <strong>30 inches<\/strong> as the width or height, depending on which side is shorter.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3>Step 5: Finalise your file<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.
