The Most Important Things to Know<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>You do NOT need VAT or OSS just to start selling.<\/strong><br>Most artists begin selling with <strong>no VAT registration<\/strong> and only consider it later if sales grow.<\/li><li><strong>We handle VAT only on the print production and shipping we supply to you.<\/strong><br>This is B2B VAT (your cost).<\/li><li><strong>You handle VAT only on the retail sale you make to your customers.<\/strong><br>Shopify manages this.<\/li><li><strong>EU print orders are fulfilled from Germany.<\/strong><br>This means EU orders are <strong>intra-EU supplies<\/strong>, NOT imports.<br>\ud83d\udc49 The \u20ac150 import rule (IOSS) does <strong>not<\/strong> apply.<\/li><li><strong>You should only have ONE EU fulfilment location in Shopify:<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 \u201cEU Fulfilment (Germany)\u201d<br>(Do <em>not<\/em> add 27 locations \u2014 this causes problems.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1>2. What We Do vs What You Do<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3>\u2705 What <em>we<\/em> handle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Print production<\/li><li>Packaging<\/li><li>Shipping from Germany<\/li><li>VAT (on the fulfilment invoice we send you)<\/li><li>Delivery and production logistics<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>\u2705 What <em>you<\/em> handle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>VAT on your <strong>retail<\/strong> sale to your customer<\/li><li>Shopify tax setup<\/li><li>Deciding when to register for VAT or OSS<\/li><li>Your own business accounting<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember:<br><strong>Creativehub does NOT control VAT. The \u20ac150 Rule Does <em>Not<\/em> Apply to Your Print Orders<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Many artists misunderstand this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u20ac150 rule applies <strong>only to imported goods<\/strong> entering the EU from outside the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we print and ship EU orders from <strong>Germany<\/strong>, all EU orders are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Germany \u2192 EU customer<\/li><li><strong>Intra-EU<\/strong> transactions<\/li><li>Subject to <strong>normal EU VAT rules<\/strong>, not import rules<\/li><li>Allowed above and below \u20ac150<\/li><li>Covered by <strong>OSS<\/strong> if you are registered<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You are fully allowed to sell prints of any value to EU customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1>4. Do You Need VAT or OSS? (Simple Explanation)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3>\ud83c\udfa8 <strong>For most artists: NO (at least not at the start)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can begin selling without <strong>any<\/strong> VAT registration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Prices display correctly<\/li><li>Checkout works correctly<\/li><li>You comply with all rules<\/li><li>You only need registrations when your sales increase<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are the three main artist categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>\ud83d\udccd If You Are <strong>Based in the UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>UK VAT registration<\/strong> if your UK turnover exceeds the UK threshold<\/li><li><strong>OSS registration<\/strong> if you want to charge EU VAT on EU sales <strong>consistently<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>BUT you do <strong>not<\/strong> need these to begin selling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>VAT on EU orders (UK-based artists)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once registered for OSS, Shopify will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Charge VAT based on customer country<\/li><li>Include VAT in prices for EU customers<\/li><li>Let you file through a single OSS return<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If not OSS-registered yet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Shopify may show <strong>no VAT until checkout<\/strong> \u2014 this is correct behaviour<\/li><li>Customers may pay import VAT on delivery BUT only if goods ship from UK<\/li><li>Your prints <strong>do not<\/strong> ship from the UK \u2014 they ship from <strong>Germany<\/strong><\/li><li>So customers are <strong>not<\/strong> charged import VAT<\/li><li>You can still sell to the EU without OSS registration<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>\ud83d\udccd If You Are <strong>Based in the EU<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You should normally:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Register for VAT in your home country<\/li><li>Consider using <strong>Union OSS<\/strong> for EU-wide sales<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>EU \u2192 EU print shipments are very straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OSS makes VAT reporting much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2>\ud83d\udccd If You Are <strong>Based Outside the EU\/UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You generally <strong>do not<\/strong> need to register for VAT immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may need EU VAT if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You sell large volumes into the EU<\/li><li>And the goods are fulfilled from Germany (EU)<\/li><li>And you remain the seller of record<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But this only applies once your business reaches a certain scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1>5. Correct Shopify Setup for VAT and EU Selling<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the correct configuration if you are using Creativehub + theprintspace fulfilment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Step 1 \u2014 Add the EU fulfilment location<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to:<br><strong>Settings \u2192 Locations \u2192 Add location<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add:<br><strong>\u201cEU Fulfilment (Germany)\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assign your Creativehub products to this location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Step 2 \u2014 Do NOT add every EU country<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a common mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You only need <strong>one<\/strong> EU location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Step 3 \u2014 Enable EU VAT collection (when registered)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Settings \u2192 Taxes and Duties \u2192 European Union<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Add your OSS VAT number (if you have one)<\/li><li>Enable VAT collection<\/li><li>Shopify will automatically calculate destination VAT<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Step 4 \u2014 Turn on VAT-inclusive pricing for EU<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>EU law requires VAT-inclusive prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shopify \u2192 Markets \u2192 EU \u2192 Tax settings \u2192<br>\u2714\ufe0f \u201c<strong>Include tax in prices<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Step 5 \u2014 Leave Creativehub alone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Creativehub\u2019s fulfilment location does not influence VAT.<br>Shopify alone determines VAT behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1>6.
