Familiar and Distant

by Jason Hindley

theprintspace is proud to present the upcoming exhibition of photographer Jason Hindley called ‘Familiar and Distant’.

Award-winning photographer Jason Hindley will exhibit 100 images of Japan, which were taken over a period of 13 years. Furthermore the exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to purchase the exhibited prints at an affordable price, whereby the prints sale will go to charity for the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

With this exhibition, Hindley hopes to make a contribution to the country which has given him continuous inspiration.

Hindley’s image series are a compilation of personal photographs taken during his many trips to Japan. His images gently observe the daily routine of Japan to reflect what could be described as unperceived fragments of everyday life. Hindley conveys familiar views of public spaces, backstreets and people revealing subtle details in a reserved and intimate way.

“I draw from the familiarity and accessibility I sense as a repeated visitor to Japan. This juxtaposed with a feeling of resigned distance inherent in being a ‘foreigner’ fuels my impulse to capture what I observe”, states Hindley.

The opening night will be on Thursday 19th May from 7pm to 9.30pm at theprintspace gallery on 74 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, London E2 8DL. ‘Familiar and Distant continues from Friday 20th May to Friday 3rd June 2011, Monday to Friday 9am –7pm at theprintspace gallery.

Admission is free and theprintspace hopes to see everyone there.
